ABOUT
MY STORY
Taco Sommelier was born from a passion for food, wine, and the vibrant culture of Mexico City.
Jyoti Gill, a pharmacist by training and former healthcare tech professional, always believed that life’s most memorable moments happen around a table—or a taco stand. In 2024, she decided to follow her heart, trading spreadsheets for tortillas and launching Taco Sommelier to share her love for the city’s rich culinary traditions. With her WSET Level 2 wine certification and an insatiable curiosity for flavors, Jyoti crafts experiences that celebrate the art of taco and wine pairings, blending her expertise with a deep appreciation for Mexico’s heritage.
Jyoti’s journey began in Chicago, where the deep-dish pizza culture and melting pot of cuisines shaped her palate and fueled her passion for food. Growing up as the daughter of Punjabi-Indian immigrants, she witnessed firsthand the power of food to bring people together and tell stories of identity and resilience. The vibrant Indian dishes served in her family home stood in contrast to the Midwest's comfort foods, creating a unique culinary perspective that sparked her lifelong love for diverse flavors and cultural traditions.
As an expat in Mexico City, Jyoti has found a deep connection to the city’s dynamic food scene and its warm, welcoming community. Navigating a new country has only deepened her appreciation for the intersection of food and culture, as well as the importance of finding shared experiences through cuisine. Through Taco Sommelier, she combines her personal journey with her professional expertise to lead intimate tours in the Condesa and Roma neighborhoods. Guiding guests to hidden taquerías and pairing local dishes with natural wines, Jyoti not only shares unforgettable flavors but also the stories, traditions, and vibrant community that make Mexico City unlike anywhere else in the world.
